Make plans to join us!  This month, we look forward to seeing everyone at:

Located downtown inside the beautifully-restored Church-Waddel-Brumby House, the Athens Welcome Center was home to two early Presidents of UGA.  The Center 'quadruples' as a visitor?s center, reception venue, gift shop, and a center for public history.  It is a resource, not only for visitors, but locals too, especially when hosting out of town guests. Our certified information specialists can schedule a tour, share up-to-the-minute events and day-trip ideas to make the most of the Classic City.  In addition to local information, they carry brochures for the entire State and can help with plan a trip anywhere across Georgia.  The Welcome Center functions in partnership with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Athens-Clarke County Unified Government, Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, and the Athens Convention & Visitors' Bureau. Director, Evelyn Reece will share their vision for the future, known as the Athens Welcome Center Master Plan.  This project will include a new downtown greenspace, bike share station, safer crosswalks, ADA accessibility, expanded parking, and more, all pending approval under SPLOST 2020.

The Welcome Center is home to Classic City Tours, offering a variety of guided and self-guided tours covering Athens heritage, music history, African-American history, and ghost stories too?  During the After-Hours event, twelve (12) door prizes will be awarded and lucky winners will embark on the Athens Heritage Tour.  Tour guide, Tom Hodgson will regale guests with his very own Athens history, peppered with hilarious tales (most of them true).
