Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp and sworn in as the 11th Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor on April 4, 2025, becoming Georgia's first Latina constitutional officer. She leads the agency at a critical time for the state's workforce and economy.
Dr. Alvie Coes, III joined the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce team as the first Chief Workforce Officer in January 2025. Alvie has led workforce development efforts through Athens Achieves, a collaborative initiative that unites business, education, and local government to build a strong workforce pipeline. Dr. Coes has overseen the launch of the innovative new job portal, Wonders of Work Futures Fair, Industry Ready Pre-Apprenticeship Programs, and more along with community partners.
