Athens, Georgia – Historic Athens and Athentic Brewing Co. are excited to announce Athenticity, a new beer collaboration just in time for one of Athens’ biggest events: Historic Athens Porchfest. The new brew is a 5.2% ABV Helles Lager featuring southeastern U.S. malts and is designed as a classic, easy drinking beer. As part of the partnership, Athentic Brewing Co. is contributing ten percent of Athenticity proceeds to benefit Historic Athens (501c3) and its mission to celebrate and conserve the community heritage of Athens, Georgia. The can art, which depicts a number of the most significant places and historic buildings in Athens, was adapted from artwork contributed by Seth McWhorter of @mcwhortercreative.
"Historic Athens works every day to develop community-wide understanding of our historic neighborhoods, buildings, and heritage,” said Tommy Valentine, executive director of Historic Athens. “We are thrilled to have Athentic’s support in that mission and to have the opportunity to launch this new, delicious beer just in time for our largest Historic Athens Porchfest ever."
The Athens community is invited to kick off Historic Athens Porchfest (presented by Cafe Racer) weekend and celebrate the release of Athenticity at Athentic Brewing Co. (108 Park Ave.) on Friday, September 30 at 6 p.m. The release party will also include a special Athens Trivia Night curated and hosted by Historic Athens, as well as an all-night playlist featuring music by many of the 156 Historic Athens Porchfest performers.
Athentic Brewing Co. has been a supporter of Historic Athens - and of Historic Athens Porchfest - since shortly before their opening in 2019. This summer, Athentic developed an idea for a new ongoing beer release designed to celebrate Porchfest and benefit Historic Athens as a non-profit. Historic Athens was understandably very enthusiastic about the concept and worked closely with Athentic to develop Athenticity.
"I am so grateful for all of the people involved with this collaboration between Athentic and Historic Athens,” said Paul Skinner, co-owner of Athentic. Skinner said he is grateful that the two organizations came together to offer something fresh to the Athens community. “In no time, we were brewing a Helles Lager, discussing can labels, envisioning a release party and bringing it all together,” he said. “Pretty amazing how a simple conversation can put things into motion and bring about change.”
