Name: Giving Voice to Linnentown: A Community Conversation About Erasure of an Athens Black Community in the 60s
Date: June 18, 2022
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
Event Description:

After you read Giving Voice to Linnentown by Hattie Thomas Whitehead, we know you will want to hear from the author herself. This book recounts how federal legislation affected the community and families of Linnentown when their community was erased by "urban renewal." Each event will be 60-90 minutes and will begin with a 30-minute presentation by Ms. Whitehead, including original photos of life in Linnentown, maps, and government documents.

Then it will be your turn: What moved you about the book? What surprised you? What upset you? What questions do you have? How can you work for change in Athens Clarke County today, and what can you learn from Hattie?
