Name: Historic Athens History Hour: The Golden Pantry
Date: July 1, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
In 1965, a new convienience store, gas station, and eatery was established by Tom Griffith in Five Points- the Golden Pantry. Since then, this chain has expanded across the Athens and Oconee areas, seemingly providing a store on every corner. Sixty years later, the third generation of the Griffith family is running the company. One aspect of this business that has kept it alive is a deep appreciation for employees and customers alike, something that is growing increasingly hard to find in the world at large but remains steady in Athens. This event will be led by employees of The Golden Pantry. Each month's History Hour is at the Lyndon House Arts Center, every 3rd Tuesday of the month. Complimentary lunch from Rashe's Cuisine is provided on a first come, first serve basis with vegan options available. This event is free and open to the public.
