Name: Must-See Talk on Climate Change: C-Change Conversations
Date: May 15, 2023
Time: 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM EDT
Event Description:

Ciné and C-Change Conversations Athens are pleased to host a dynamic and completely non-partisan introduction to and discussion of climate change on Monday, May 15th. Doors open at 4:30 pm for a mix and mingle with C-Change members with a presentation and Q&A from 5:15-6:30pm. Popcorn will be provided by C-Change Conversations and drinks will be available for purchase.

Speaker Dallas Hetherington is a retired global specialty chemicals professional and volunteer with C-Change Conversations. He will present the C-Change Primer, which C-Change developed with input from scientists and energy and policy experts and is appropriate for all audiences, but especially those who are uncertain about the risk of warming global temperatures. It is widely hailed as an intelligent, dispassionate introduction to and illumination of climate change and has been presented nationwide and overseas.

The presentation uses powerful visuals and information from trusted sources to provide a non-partisan, accessible overview of the science behind climate change, a clear-eyed assessment of the potential risks ahead, and the context for why we should care about the issue.

The C-Change Primer frames climate change in terms of the three areas that are important to American voters: jobs and the economy; health and personal security; and geopolitical security. The Primer answers five questions most Americans have about warming temperatures: How do we know climate change is real? How do we know climate change is caused by humans? What is the scientific consensus? What are the dangers? Is there hope?

C-Change Conversations was founded and is run by volunteers who span the political spectrum. Our aim is simple: move the conversation away from the politicized language of today to help us all understand the implications of climate change. This short video provides a good introduction to the group, our mission, and our non-confrontational, peer-to-peer approach in talking about climate change. In connection with the C-Change Primer presentation, “Mad Max: Fury Road” will be screened as a part of this important climate focused theme. The Academy Award-winning film will be accompanied by a short, science-based video presentation entitled, “Will Climate Change Drive Us to a Mad Max World?" In this video C-Change Conversations founder, Kathleen Biggins, and Dallas Hetherington discuss the impact of climate change as it relates to the movie. The film is part of Science on Screen, a program supported by The Coolidge Corner Theater and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, with additional support from the Georgia Council for the Arts.
