The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based organization with nearly 900 business members. The breadth of service we provide includes weekly networking opportunities, monthly events, and engaging with business leaders to more fully understand their needs.
The Chamber is seeking a Special Events Coordinator. This position has direct responsibility for the majority of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce programming and special events. The Special Events coordinator will strategically and effectively communicate to members the value of participation. This position implements strategic direction for the organization’s growth within the Program area.
This position is full-time with group health insurance and 3% match to a Simple IRA. Salary range is $45,000-55,000.

Reports to: Vice President of Operations

Responsibilities:
- Has primary and direct responsibility for the successful planning and implementation of:
- Annual Meeting
- MidYear Event
- Athena Awards
- Golf Outing
- Pancakes and Policy
- Women Who Work
- Leads Groups
- Gamechangers
- Intercity Leadership Visit (as applicable)
- Has secondary responsibility for the successful planning and implementation of:
- Page Star Awards
- Network Lunch
- Develop budgets for each event in accordance with the organization’s overall budget
- Provides follow up survey after each event
- Develops Committees to provide direct assistance as needed
- Serves as the primary staff liaison for LEAD Athens
- Staff liaison to selected Chamber committees
- Closely monitor industry trends and local issues impacting Chamber programming efforts
- Work with Chamber interns in assigning projects to assist with event coordination
- Seek avenues for enhancing skill sets/training needed to excel at this position
- Office management: Maintain ample office, kitchen and restroom supplies
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience in event planning and coordination
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Flexibility to work some nights and weekends dependent upon event schedule
- Positive energy and works well in collaborative environment
- Self-motivated with good time management skills
- Valid Driver’s License
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent field experience
- 3-5 years event management experience preferred
