The Classic Center Cultural Foundation Awards Scholarships to Eight Regional High School Students

ATHENS, Ga - The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2023 performing and visual arts scholarships:
Laila Carter, North Oconee High School; Seager Hunt, Athens Academy; Kaylor Jones, Prince Avenue Christian School; Georgia Lance, Jackson County High School; Brenna Pursley, Oconee County High School; Jennifer Zong, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School; Zoey Townsend, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School; and the recipient of The Ann and Jack Crowley Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts, Chloe Allen, Clarke Central High School.
Performing and visual arts scholarships are open to 9th through 12th grade high school students in the Northeast Georgia region. The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is proud to support students throughout Northeast Georgia in their continuous study of the arts and is thrilled to be able to award each performing and visual arts scholarship recipient $2,000, and $500 will be awarded to the school’s program.
Vocal: Laila Carter (North Oconee High School) North Oconee High School junior, Laila Carter, has already had her vocal talents recognized by many local organizations. She received three Superior Solo Thespys at the ThesCon state level and two Superior Solo Thespys at the international level. Laila is a member of the NOHS flagline, a NOHS Titan ambassador, and a member of several clubs. Laila was named the winner of Region 4A Girls Solo, and she was selected to perform at the International Thespian Festival Showcase. Laila hopes performing will one day lead her to a career on Broadway.
Dance/Drama: Seager Hunt (Athens Academy) Athens Academy senior Seager Hunt is a performing and visual artist. He has been competitively trained in dance through the Oconee Youth School of Performance. Seager placed first in solo performance for the 2022 Rainbow National Dance Finals and the 2022 Bravo Southeast Regional Finals. He is an active member of the Madison-Morgan Junior Conservatory, and he serves as President of the Athens Academy Honor Council. He hopes to pursue dance, specifically choreography, in the future.
Dance/Drama: Kaylor Jones (Prince Avenue Christian School) Prince Avenue Christian School senior, Kaylor Jones, is well on her way to a career in musical theatre! She is a 2022 Shuler Georgia High School Musical Theatre Award nominee for choreography and a recipient of the Best Actress award for the Region One Act Play Competition. She received a superior rating at the 2023 State Thespian Conference in both solo and group performance and was a two-time Georgia Governor’s Honors Program nominee in dance. She has performed in many school productions, is a past member of the Georgia 4-H Clovers and Company, and received her school’s 2022 Performing Arts Sparkle Award. Kaylor hopes to obtain a BFA program in musical theatre, where she would love to perform one day on Broadway.
Vocal: Georgia Lance (Jackson County High School) Jackson County High School junior, Georgia Lance, was born to perform! She was awarded as part of the Region One Act All-Star Cast for 2021 and 2022, she was a 2022 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program nominee and 2023 semi-finalist in voice. In addition to her vocal performing talents, she is also a member of the National Honor Society and served as the first chair in French Horn for the Jackson County High School Band. Georgia plans to attend college to continue her studies in music and theatre, with the hopes of performing as a professional actress with a musical theatre company or show.
Instrumental: Brenna Pursley (Oconee County High School) Oconee County High School senior Brenna Pursley is well on her way to accomplishing great things with her artistic talent. She has numerous awards for her instrumental performance, including being named Outstanding Performer at the 2022 and 2023 GTMA auditions and a three-time gold award winner at the AMTA Sonata and Sonatina festivals. Brenna is also a member of her school’s academic team, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a published author. She has been accepted into the University of Georgia and plans to study piano performance at the Hodgson School of Music. Instrumental: Jennifer Zong (Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School) Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School senior Jennifer Zong is an accomplished musician. Jennifer is a member of honor band as well as the orchestra, she was selected as a MADFest soloist! After graduation, Jennifer will begin her college career at Tufts University, where she will pursue a double major in music and psychology. She hopes to join the Tufts orchestra and continue to improve her skills as a soloist.
Visual Arts: Zoey Townsend (Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School) Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School senior Zoey Townsend has been making her own clothes since she was seven. Adding art classes in high school expanded her outlook and helped her realize her dream was to pursue a career in fashion design. Zoey was awarded first place in the 2023 National Make It with Wool Competition. She is a member of the National Arts Social Program and a costume designer for her community theatre program. Zoey has been accepted into the Fashion Marketing degree program at the art school IED in Barcelona, Spain, where she will begin this Fall.
Ann & Jack Crowley Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts: Chloe Allen (Clarke Central High School) Clarke Central High School senior Chloe Allen uses art as an outlet and an opportunity to express her surroundings. She is a recipient of the Honorable Gladiator Award, and her work was chosen for display in the Iliad Art and Literary Magazine. Her work in photography was also selected for exhibition at the UGA Wilson Center for Humanities and Art. She is a member of the Varsity Tennis team, the Fashion Design Club, and the National Honors Society. She hopes to study art history and film as she attends University College in Dublin, Ireland, in the Fall.
